In English, the word ‘symphony’ originates from ‘symphonia’, a Greek word meaning “harmony” and “consonance”. Speaking in terms of Sống Foundation (a non-profit social organization supporting people affected by natural disasters and climate change) and one of its projects, Nhà Chống Lũ (translated as ‘Anti-Flood Houses’, a non-profit initiative focusing on building safe, weather-resilient houses for communities most affected by natural disasters in Central Vietnam), “symphony” for Jang Kều refers to a participatory method, in which the use of art and creativity can be considered an alternative approach to community development. Speaking through the experiences gained from her operation of Sống Foundation, Jang Kều will present her concept of “symphony”, an amalgamation of creativity, volunteerism, and far-reaching dreams that become a reality.
Jang Kều is the founder of Sống Foundation, a non-profit social organization supporting people affected by natural disasters and climate change. The foundation carries out different activities through various organizations, such as the Flood Prevention Program – focusing on building safe houses and developing sustainable livelihoods for the poor. The program has 50% funding from Jang Kều via donation and charity auctions, the rest sourced from supportive families who supervise and make effort to build their houses together. Six years after their establishment in 2013, with the participation of volunteers and philanthropists, 700 houses were built in 11 provinces and over 7,000 trees were planted in Hà Nội and Hội An. In 2018, the foundation has raised more than 15 billion VND for its 2019 planned activities, including building 150 safe houses of 11 differing designs in Hội An, Thanh Hóa, Quảng Bình and Hậu Giang, in addition to planting more than 50 thousand trees.
Jang Kều is Chairwoman and CEO of GroupG Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, a group of companies in material supply, brand consultancy and communication. She graduated with a master’s degree in International Business and Finance from Pan Pacific & International Studies – Kyung Hee University (South Korea).
What is ‘Creative Sessions’?
‘Creative Sessions’ is about sharing the inspiration behind creative thinking in Vietnam. Whether you are an artist, architect, chef, fashion designer, illustrator, musician, scientist or writer, these ‘sessions’ seek to demonstrate how creativity can be about allowing our minds to open up, that it may be as much about learning a discipline as it is about taking wonder in the everyday present moment
